Mario Badioli is one of the most passionate and innovative contemporary glass artists of Murano, Italy. His Murano glasswork pays homage to the ancient tradition of artistic glassmaking while simultaneously introducing a modern touch to his creations, most notably through his celebrated Picasso-inspired heads.

In the past century, Murano glass artists, through continuous experimentation, have discovered new ways of mastering the medium. Mario Badioli has ventured into new artistic territories through the interplay of sand and fire, ultimately developing a universal language of glass. His artistic creations materialize the imagination, bringing forth spectacular colors and forms.

Badioli began his career in the early 1950s at a Murano furnace. The world of ancient glassmaking, with its secrets, allure, and creative atmosphere, captivated the young artist. Mastering the art of glassmaking became not just a profession but a profound passion. He was able to shape his emotions, working with molten glass and allowing joy and love to permeate each movement he made.

Badioli began producing unique, small-batch pieces that reflected not only his personal vision but also his deep understanding of his clients’ desires. He perfected a distinctive technique of color application, known as the “slap” and “droplet” methods. Through these techniques, he was able to “paint” his pieces in a singular and exceptional way, creating works that are both visually captivating and deeply expressive.
