Dario Frare

DARIO FRARE was born in 1977 in Murano and has inherited his passion for drawing and glassmaking techniques from his father and collaborator Giuliano, also a well-known Master. Dario started working with glass when he was still a child making pearls and glass candies and “stealing with the sight” the secrets of other masters. This passion would become later his specialty at the Institute of Art in Venice where, thanks to his innate artistic ability, he gained the title of Master of Art. The artistic studies allowed him to perfect his drawing skills, a crucial ability for the lume technique, where the familiarity with anatomical proportion is the key for success. He started from the creation of glass animals, with a particular attention for the lagoon species that surrounded him. His determination to reach the highest level of realism through glass pushed him to experiment with techniques and finishings in order to obtain the most faithful representation of cultural and anatomical characteristics. Masai warriors, Japanese geishas, and native American hunters, his creativity knows no limits. Dario’s great manual dexterity enhanced by a restless inner strength allowed him to become one of the most sought artists of the lume technique of the Island. He also started long and fruitful collaborations with international artists such as the master and engraver Luigi Camozzo and the French artist Aristide Najean. Today his professional maturity and ability to create glass forms harmoniously colored make him one of the most prominent artists in the panorama of current glass making.
